Life Lately: 10 Things I've Done Since The Last Time I Posted

Hi, friends! Wow, it's been quite a while since I posted here. I'm just going to jump right in and be very honest and blunt with y'all. I hope that's ok.

With everything that's been happening in the world, I've been finding it difficult to know what to say on this blog. I'm sure many of you feel the same. Please don't think that I'm saying, "Why are people still blogging" or "Why are they posting on social media" - that's not what I'm saying. If being an influencer is your full time job, by all means, you have to keep working. But these people who are just so out of touch with reality and tone deaf to the suffering that's happening all around us, all around the world - I cannot pretend to tolerate those people. Twitter has become a really safe place for me lately. I get to retweet things that speak to my political leaning (and my heart), but I can also share lighthearted things if I want to. Twitter seems to be where I'm finding my most like-minded group of individuals. For the sake of full disclosure, ever since Charlottesville I've been much more open with my opinion about everything. I've never been one to hold back my opinion, but it seems to slip right off my tongue lately, and I wear it like a badge of honor.

Love is love.

Love trumps hate.

Love always wins.

I've been feeling lately like I'm meant to use this blog for more than I have been. I can't tell you how much "soul searching" (that sounds so cliche, sorry) I've done lately. For those of us who feel strongly about the need to be better human beings, now is our time. It's time to own that and act on it. I don't think "fulfilling your calling" can be put off another day. I don't want to go down a rabbit hole - I kinda already did. I just wanted to give you guys a little insight into where my head and heart have been lately and the reason for the radio silence around here.

I thought this would be a fun post to share to kinda kick out of my rut a little bit. I hope you enjoy. Happy Tuesday, loves! xo, Julie

Rhythm & Roots

one // RHYTHM & ROOTS: This was the first time I've been to the musical festival in several years and it was so much better than I remember. Musical festivals aren't my thing typically (so many people, no cell service, anxiety), but I had so much fun seeing Annabelle's Curse, The Steeldrivers, and Judah and The Lion.

two // GAME OF THRONES: I started the show about two weeks ago and I'm well into season six. It's just as addictive as everyone says. Things I know for sure: Tyrion is my favorite, Jon Snow is a dreamboat, and Daenerys is a badass.

three // CHRISTMAS TREE: Yes, I bought a new Christmas tree already. When I moved into my new house back in March I knew that it was going to be difficult to decorate the way I always had in my townhouse. Even though my pink Christmas tree isn't very big, it's still going to require rearranging furniture and will probably take up more floor space than I can sacrifice. So, I opted for a retro tinsel tree in rose gold. Doesn't that sound amazing?!

four // HIMALAYAN SALT LAMP: Ok, ok. So I gave into the hype. Do any of you all have one of these in your home? I think they're beautiful and would probably have purchased one regardless of the health benefits. That's just an added bonus according to everything I've read. Do any of y'all have an opinion?

Seacrest Beach, Florida

five // TRIP TO 30A: A group of my girlfriends and I took a trip down to the Gulf Coast of Florida for a few days. This was the first time I had ever been there, and I may have found a place that ranks up there with Charleston. I have never seen water so blue or sand so creamy white. If you get an opportunity, this is definitely a place you should add to your bucket list!

six // FALL DECORATING: I think fall decorating may be my favorite. I picked up some pumpkins and a mum to add to my front porch over the weekend. That should keep things festive until the end of November.

seven // BRIGHTENED MY RED HAIR: Some people don't know that I'm naturally a red head. As I've gotten older my hair has gotten darker but there's still a distinct red tint under the right light. I've never wanted to abandon my natural color completely and a few weeks ago I had my stylist spice it up a bit for fall.

eight // HOMECOMING PREP: I was in Roanoke a few weeks ago for a conference and popped into Altar'd State afterward. Every year I try to find something new to wear to my college homecoming and I found a couple of great options that day. Just add a hat and booties!

nine // UNINVITED: I've shared this book several times on social media. If you haven't already, I highly recommend getting your hands on a copy of Lysa TerKeurst's Uninvited. This is one of those books that will stay with you long after you put it down and will give you something that's been missing from all those other "live your best life" books you've read over the years.

ten // LEARNED A LOT ABOUT MYSELF: I want to share more in another post, but since I last posted I've been doing a lot of soul searching, self evaluation, mindfulness exercises, thoughtful reflection, and drawing closer to God. I have not been living my faith out loud enough and I want to share more of my journey with you all. Stay tuned for a full post coming soon.
