My Everyday Makeup Routine

Julie Leah // Everyday Makeup Routine

Hi, gang! Happy Monday! This is a post that has been requested for quite a while, and I'm so glad I got my butt in gear this weekend and did it! I hope this gives you a pretty good overview of how I do my makeup every day without an actual step-by-step video. I just don't have the set-up to do a video right now, and honestly, it's a little intimidating. So, for now, I've given you some photos and all the links to the products that I use. My routine is really very simple, I've just perfected some of the skills with the help of my YouTube bestie, Jaclyn Hill.

MY TOP 5 MAKEUP TIPS:

one // Invest in brushes.

 two // Blend. Blend. Blend.

three // You don't have to follow trends if they aren't right for you.

four // Invest in your brows.

five // Take time to take care of your skin.

So let's jump right in, shall we?! If you have any questions or comments, or if you want more details about anything, please don't hesitate to reach out! julieleahblog@gmail.com

I thought it was best to start with the brushes/tools I use to apply the "face" step of my makeup.

one // BEAUTY BLENDER - I use this to apply concealer under my eyes and along my jawline to cover redness. Then, I use the flat end to blend out a darker, contour shade of concealer.

two // FOUNDATION - Recently, I haven't been wearing foundation, but when I do I blend it out with this brush.

three // POWDER - I use this IT COSMETICS brush to lightly dust powder over my face to set my concealer and foundation.

four // BRONZER - This brush is technically for foundation, but I love it for applying bronzer and contouring my cheekbones and nose.

five // HIGHLIGHTER - The brush is so light and whispy, it applies highlighter perfectly and not too heavy.

STEP 1: I wash my face using the TONY MOLY BANANA CLEANSER. Then, I moisturize with POND'S DRY SKIN CREAM (I use this year-round). My primer of choice is either the BENEFIT 15 HOUR PRIMER or the SMASHBOX PHOTO FINISH PRIMER.

STEP 2: I use URBAN DECAY NAKED CONCEALER under my eyes to brighten and cover dark circles and along my jawline to cover up redness. This is hands-down the best concealer I've ever used. When I wear foundation, I use ESTEE LAUDER DOUBLE WEAR. I put foundation on first and apply concealer on top.

STEP 3: I use a deeper shade of concealer, L'OREAL TRUE MATCH, for liquid contouring. I think this gives the most natural look for contouring. I brush a small line on both sides of my forehead, down my nose, on my chin, and right under my cheekbones.

STEP 4: Finally, I set everything with a very light dusting of ESTEE LAUDER DOUBLE MATTE PRESSED POWDER.

COLORS I USE:
one // ESTEE LAUDER FOUNDATION - FRESCO
two // URBAN DECAY CONCEALER - LIGHT NEUTRAL and FAIR NEUTRAL
three // L'OREAL CONCEALER - MEDIUM/DEEP
four // ESTEE LAUDER POWDER - LIGHT

STEP 5: I use the PHYSICIANS FORMULA BUTTER BRONZER along my hairline, my nose, my cheekbones, my chin, and neck to create a "natural" bronzed/contoured look (combined with the concealer). This bronzer smells so good, y'all. The color is very subtle and sun-kissed.

STEP 6: I use the soft ivory and yellow powders in the NYX PALETTE to set my under-eye concealer.

STEP 7: Lately I've been alternating between a NYX coral blush and NARS orgasm blush. Both are very soft and flattering for my skin tone. Coral shades work better on me than pinks.

STEP 8: I highlight at the very top of my cheekbones using BECCA'S CHAMPAGNE POP or MARY-LOU MANIZER by THE BALM. I'll usually do one swipe on my forehead and chin, as well. I use MARY-LOU MANIZER for highlighting my brow bone and the inner corner of my eyes, too.

STEP 9: I use the IT COSMETICS NATURALLY PRETTY EYE SHADOW PALETTE every. single. day. This is my absolute favorite palette for everyday colors that just look, well, naturally pretty and flattering.

STEP 10: I use an ELF BLACK EYE PENCIL for my lower lash line and smudge it out using a sponge. Then, I go back over the smudge with whatever color of eyeshadow that I've chosen that day. This creates a very pretty "smokey" effect, but by using softer shades to tone down the black liner, it's perfect for everyday.

STEP 11: I use NYX MATTE LIQUID LINER to line my top lash line. (Tip: If you line your bottom lashes, always line the top, as well. Otherwise, you get a very off-balance, weighed-down effect on your eyes. Not what you want!)

STEP 12: I use NYX SKINNY MASCARA on my lower lashes to pull apart and define every little lash.

STEP 13: Finally, I layer BENEFIT ROLLER LASH and TOO FACED BETTER THAN SEX mascara to create a full, lengthened effect on my top lashes. These two mascaras together never clump or become "too much." They layer very easily.

PRODUCTS:
five // BENEFIT ERASE PASTE - I use this to prime my eyelids and create an even base for my shadow.
six // BENEFIT ROLLER LASH in BLACK
seven // TOO FACED BETTER THAN SEX in CARBON BLACK
eight // NYX THE SKINNY MASCARA in BLACK

STEP 14: I take my brows pretty seriously, and these two Anastasia Beverly Hills products are my ride or die. I use the BROW DEFINER to fill in and shape my brows followed by the CLEAR BROW GEL to lock them in place. Seriously, this stuff is like super glue for your brows - it's a must-have!

STEP 15: I set my makeup using the L'OREAL INFALLIBLE SETTING SPRAY or the NYX MATTE FINISH SETTING SPRAY - both of these are amazing.

STEP 16: Finally, I pick out my lipstick from one of the colors above and done!

This is what happens when you don't have a photographer to take actual photos of your finished makeup - you play with snapchat filters. That's ok, right?! These were taken yesterday, and I used all the products mentioned to do my makeup. I'm wearing the Lorac/NYX gloss lip combination - see, isn't it so pretty? And can I just point out how RED my hair looks in the bunny filter. Gimme that all. the. time.

Thanks for stopping by, y'all!
