Happy New Year, friends! Today I'm sharing some reflections on the last decade and reliving my favorite moments (and outfits) of 2019!
The saying is true - the days go by slow but the years go by fast. These past ten years held a lot for me. A lot of growth, a lot of laughs (and tears), a lot of old and new. I stuck with some old habits and kicked others. I discovered what it means to set boundaries and choose yourself first. I learned the importance of therapy and self care. I embraced forgiveness and I embraced letting go. I named my anxiety and tackled it head-on. I unfollowed people online and in real life. I dove into my faith life deeper than I ever have. I thanked God for how he made me and told everyone they could get on board or get out. I fell in love. Twice. But I'm inclined to think that the time around 2012 didn't count. I started taking care of myself in ways that I haven't before. My precious fur baby and my blog turned ten this year. I celebrated ten years since I graduated from college. And realized there are still days I feel like the teenagers that I'm counseling. Life has been hard and heavy and light and free and complicated and easy across these ten years. I'm thankful for every moment.
My word for 2019 was BREATHE. This is my favorite type of "resolution." There's nothing I hate more than the "new year, new me" mentality. Just say no to that. Choose a meaningful word and weave it into your year. You would be amazed how much it gives you a foundation to build on for the next 12 months. I'll share my word for 2020 as soon as I figure out what it's going to be!
Until then, let's jump in and revisit some of my favorite moments from the past year. I'm looking forward to heading into this new decade with y'all and sharing everything that comes and goes, and celebrations big and small. Here's to 2020!
**
I celebrated my 32nd birthday in January. . .
. . .and later that month I saw the goddess Cher in concert with my best friend and her daughter.
**
In March, Lori and I spent several days in Nashville and saw Kacey Musgraves in concert at The Ryman - truly a magical experience! (And we saw her again in the fall!)
**
In the spring, I visited The Outer Banks for the first time and got my first sunburn of the season.
**
Took a Saturday trip to DC and visited Barack & Michelle's portraits :)
**
I spent summer vacation back in Charleston, SC, my favorite city.
**
Found some gorgeous photo spots right off the interstate - this is a favorite on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
**
I celebrated my 10 year anniversary at my alma mater - how festive are we?!
**
2019 was the year that I fully embraced my love of Disney and channeled it in my wardrobe.
**
I visited Glitterville - a.k.a. the inside of my brain come to life!
**
Frozen 2 was released and completely overtook everything about my day-to-day life ;)
**
I settled on a signature manicure photo set up (it's the simple things!)
**
And finally, I spent the last weekend of the year/decade with my family celebrating Christmas. My mom was sick all last week so everything got pushed to the weekend. Honestly, it was great prolonging the holiday celebration a bit and eating a casual meal at a local hole-in-the-wall then opening gifts at home with my parents.
**
See you in 2020!
xo, Julie
