My Top Travel Tips

My parents and I were originally heading down to South Carolina this weekend for a wedding, and I thought it was a perfect time to share my top travel tips with you all. Unfortunately, Hurricane Joaquin has other plans in mind and we've had to cancel our trip. I still wanted to share this post, though, since we all got so many travel ideas from my summer series. Figuring out a great travel plan/routine can be hard. And honestly, it's taken me my whole life to accept the fact that my entire closet doesn't have to be packed for a three day trip. My trip to Disney back in the spring is when I really started to change the way I pack for a trip and develop key pieces of my routine that I'm not willing to sacrifice. I hope you enjoy!

This is one of the most important steps in my packing routine. Bagging all my jewelry individually prevents a huge tangled mess when I arrive at my destination. The Kendra Scott drawstring bags are my absolute favorite for separating my jewelry, then I put all the bags in a larger zip bag like this one from Vera Bradley

I know y'all are thinking this one is so obvious, but I can't tell you how many times I've taken up an unnecessary amount of space in my luggage for a full size bottle of lotion or hair spray! If it's available in travel size, buy it! One of my recent tricks is to also use perfume samples or a service like Scentbird* for packing your fragrances. It takes up a fraction of the space and you don't have to worry about breaking a glass bottle in your luggage.

I learned this the hard way! When you arrive at your destination and open your toiletries bag and body wash is all over everything, you quickly put this plan into action on your next trip! I put all my liquids in individually sealed plastic baggies. So, just in case there's a spill or something bursts in your luggage, you don't have to spend a lot of time doing clean up. I think this especially important with nail polish!

This is another tip that I feel like people know but one that had to go on my list! It amazes me how rolling your clothes instead of folding can maximize your luggage space! My mom still doesn't get it :-/

This had never crossed my mind until Jessica rented a couple of pieces for SBSCon this summer and had them sent straight to the hotel. Talk about saving room in your suitcase! A service like Rent the Runway allows you to send items directly to the hotel, wear them (hopefully they fit perfectly!), and then ship them back out at the front desk when you check out. Isn't that brilliant?!

You know those things we all tend to forget at some point or another? These are the items that can sometimes make or break your trip. For me, these include - an umbrella, rain jacket, back-up phone charger, medicines, and a lint roller.

*Disclosure: Scentbird gifted me a free month of their perfume subscription service. You receive a 30 day supply of a designer fragrance for $14.95. This is not a sponsored post.

**Edit: Nothing is standing in our way and we've decided to head south! Looks like only heavy rain where we're going - I pray!

I love the idea about "renting the runway". Sounds great!
