On the Coast of Somewhere Beautiful

I haven't commented on the Gulf Coast since the tragedy happened, but today's the day. My heart has been breaking.

I decided that I wanted to devote today's post to sending a big hug to my blog sisters that have been affected by the oil spill.

You may have noticed that button on my right sidebar that says 'sending love to the Gulf Coast.' It's linked to Bumpkin. However, it could also be linked to Summer. Or KB or Lacey, who live down in Louisiana.

If you don't know, the little town of NoLa holds a special place in my heart, but since the oil spill I have wanted nothing more than to wrap my arms around every little town in the Gulf and offer a kind word, a hug, a smile....

~~~~~~~~
In case you haven't heard, on Thursday of last week the oil stopped pumping into the Gulf for the first time in almost 90 days. According to the press, it's still up in the air as to whether the well will be reopened again but for now, our friends in the Gulf can breathe a small sigh of relief. You can read the full story from the Associated Press here.
I wish that I could pack up right now and go down there and help with the relief efforts. I would love nothing more than to do that.
Just know that my heart is breaking, my eyes are full of tears as I write this, and today (and everyday until this is a memory) I am sending all my love......
....to the Gulf Coast.
~~~~~~~~

Please take a minute to browse these Etsy shops that are helping raise money for relief efforts from the sales of their products.

These are only a few of the shops, click here to browse many more. You can also join the facebook page 'Save the Gulf of Mexico' to get breaking news, photos and volunteer information- click here.

 A beautiful quote from my Summer B....

To my loves in the Gulf Coast and who have been affected by the oil spill,

You are in my heart and on my mind right now, today, tomorrow and the long days ahead. You're strong, you will rise above this, and I will be here to support you along the way.

******

All my love is going to the Gulf today. Won't you join me?

    I would love nothing better than to hop on a plane and volunteer my time cleaning up. Unfortunately, life calls.

    Thank you so much for the Etsy tip. I will stop by today and pick some things up.

    This was a lovely post, Miss Julie!

  7. Thanks sweetie for thinking of all of us! It has been heart breaking this summer not to go out on the beach every weekend. I have lived on the gulf coast here in alabama my whole life and it makes me so sad that I could not take my little boy out there this summer. Hopefully, everything will be somewhat normal soon. Praying!

  11. Julie,
    Such a good post. I recently posted on how to support through the etsy shop "Help the Gulf Coast".
    So happy when I saw the news about it being temporarily fixed!
    Hope it continues.
    Happy monday dear!

  12. This was such a great post. My heart breaks just looking at these poor animals covered in oil and knowing people are suffering through this. The beaches ruined. I hope the clean up continues and that I could go and help. I will definitely be checking out the Etsy shops so I can contribute.

    P.S - LOVE this song!

  15. What a thoughtful post! I think Summer's quote suits the people of the Gulf Coast so perfectly. If there's anything I know about them it is that persevere they will!

  16. I live on the Bay in Mobile and 45 mins away from the beaches in Gulf Shores, so it's close to home. There are so many that are taking a beating from this, it completely rips my heart open... As a little girl till just last year I've played on those white sandy beaches and in those blue waters...something one day I hope my children can enjoy just as much as I have...

    Lets just pray they don't open that well again.

  22. What a touching post, Julie. This is such a tragedy - the Gulf Coast holds a special place in our heart (my in-laws have a place in Gulf Shores) and I hate what has happened. Thanks for sharing the sentiment.

  26. What a thoughtful post. I hate what has happened in the Gulf and now to the people in the surrounding coastal areas. I'm sorry, but I can't hardly look at the BP logo without feeling ill!

  27. Thank you my dear for all the beautiful thoughts. It's a hard time down here, especially working within the oilfield itself. Its a terrible terrible thing to be here everyday worrying about our beautiful wetlands but to also be afraid of losing your job, your brother losing his job, and your dad losing a way of life hes built for 40 years - In addition to praying for the clean-up effort, I really ask people to pray for the people here along the Gulf.

  28. Amen, sister! My heart has been breaking reading Bumpkin's posts about the spill, and you could not have said it better. Sending love to the Gulf with you!
