5 Must-Have Accessories for Summer

I'm usually not one to buy lots of new things for a trip. I'll dig way back into my closet for things that I haven't worn in a while that instantly feel new again. My recent trip to Charleston did not bring out the fashion recycler in me, however, because I snagged several new pieces before I left. These new pieces ended up being ones that I was so glad I purchased (no buyer's remorse!), and I actually felt like were missing from my closet. You can see two of them in this post - my bag and sunglasses. Accessories are my favorite part of getting dressed, and in the summertime it's even more fun and carefree.

The outfit featured in this post is one that I wore my last night in Charleston for dinner on Sullivan's Island at The Obstinate Daughter. I love the swingy-ness of this dress and the way it could easily transition to "Saturday morning at an island farmers market" if I had a large basket in my hand to fill with local flowers and produce. This dress was a bargain find at TJ Maxx and felt so perfect for a beach vacation. It was also incredibly forgiving after my pizza/pasta/mojito/sorbet dinner!

Read on for my five must-have summer accessories!

I fully understood (and embraced) the importance of statement sunglasses on this trip! I had so many people comment on these heart sunnies that it became a little bit of a joke. They're so fun and add some pizazz to any "regular" outfit.

I had never understood my need for a white bag in the summertime until I found a small one with flowers embroidered on the front right before I left for vacation. For some reason white bags and shoes are something I've never been drawn to, but I love how unexpected and polished they look.

The holy grail of versatile accessories! They can be flats or heels, but a great pair of nude sandals is essential in the summertime. If necessary, they could be the only pair of shoes you pack on a trip and they would most likely go with every outfit. I prefer to have a flat and heeled option!

There is nothing like a great pair of statement earrings in the summer. Sometimes they can be the only jewelry you wear because they make such a huge impact on your outfit. Some of my favorite brands for statement earrings are BaubleBar, Lisi Lerch, and Kendra Scott. If you're a girl on a super tight budget, Walmart and Target have been coming through lately with incredible options!

Combine this with number one, and you've got yourself a perfectly chic look for the beach or pool. I can't lie, even when I'm in "beach mode" I still like for my look to be pulled together. I wore my tassel cover-up with every suit on vacation - I found it for a steal at Walmart!

I hope y'all are having a great week so far! You can view more looks from my trip to Charleston in this post or on my instagram in the "Charleston" highlight I have saved! xo, Julie
