My Nashville Travel Diary

Nashville Travel Guide
(It's Gonna Be Ok mural - 3020 Charlotte Avenue, Nashville)

The title of this post really should say, "The weekend I saw Kacey Musgraves and nearly overdosed on happiness," but I decided to not be dramatic. A couple weeks ago one of my best friends and I spent the weekend in Nashville and it was one of my favorite weekend trips ever. I've never been big on doing "travel guides" or claiming to know the best this or best that - I just know what I like and I love sharing it with y'all. We ate some delicious food, shopped at some of the best local stores, and took some really fun photos. There is so much to see and do in Nashville, and it never feels like there's enough time to get in everything. Which is always fine by me because that just starts my list for the next trip!

We had already decided on our drive down that we were going to eat dinner at Loveless Cafe. If you have never been, it is a Nashville institution and you have to add it to your list! You have never tasted biscuits like theirs. Prepare to be in a full food coma when you leave. So many carbs, so delicious. It sits on the cutest property and they have a couple of gift shops where you can purchase their yummy preserves and biscuit mix!

My friend, Lori - isn't she adorable?! The next morning we got up early and headed over to Franklin. This has become a tradition for us on our trips to Nashville. Franklin is one of the cutest little towns with the best main street shops and restaurants. We had lunch at Puckett's Grocery (grilled pimento cheese with a fried green tomato!) and then strolled around main street popping into all the the cute shops. The photo above was taken in Tin Cottage.

After we finished on main street in Franklin we went over to The Factory and shopped around. We ended the day with a smoothie from Franklin Juice Co. that did not disappoint!

Friday night was the highlight of our trip getting to see Kacey Musgraves at The Ryman. I've seen Kacey once before on her Christmas tour a couple years ago, but this was next level. The tickets had been purchased for months and by the time Friday night rolled around I was giddy. This was my first time at The Ryman and it is an experience that every music lover should add to their bucket list. We grabbed a quick dinner at Bajo Sexto Taco (right next to Bridgestone Arena and part of The Country Music Hall of Fame). They have the best street style tacos and their street corn - yum!

There are no bad seats in the Ryman. People around us who had been before said their favorite spot is the balcony - we had awesome balcony seats!

We split our last day in Nashville between Hillsboro Village and Opryland Hotel. We had lunch at McDougal's Chicken. I love a good hole in the wall and this one did not disappoint. We were packed in this little spot, struggling to find a table but it was delicious - I'm sold on any meal that comes with a piece of buttery Texas toast.

Popping into Apple & Oak was a highlight of our time in Hillsboro Village. It's so pretty and quaint on the inside and they have a row of cacti in a window box on the outside. They also stock Oui Fresh products, a retail extension of A Beautiful Mess.

This mural isn't right in Hillsboro Village, but not a very far drive. This is actually part of a long row of murals painted on a wall right on the highway. It was a little intimidating running across the street to get the shot, but it was worth it!

We ended our day at Opryland Hotel. I hadn't been to Opryland since I was really young and didn't remember much about it. Even if you're not staying at the hotel, I definitely recommend working this into your itinerary. It's beautiful inside so walking around is fun on its own, but there are tons of little shops, a riverboat ride, and a number of restaurants right on the property. We ended up eating at Solario Cantina, their casual Mexican spot. I don't know if it's a regular thing but they had a taco bar that night and I should not be trusted with all-you-can-eat tacos.
