Happy fall, you guys! And happy October! This is my favorite clothes season, without a doubt. I love layering and getting to experiment with pieces that are already in my closet. This is always a time that I enjoy the items in my closet most. Fall is usually when I feel the need to buy a few basic pieces - tunic-length tees, long cardigans, leggings, a new pair of booties, a felt hat, etc - that I can count on to mix well with what I already have. Below are the items that, time and time again, I find myself reaching for to transition from summer to fall with ease.

one. HATS
I wear hats year-round (here, here and here), but they definitely add a little pop to any fall outfit and can instantly make a look cool-weather appropriate.
two. BOOTIES
Booties are the fall staple that I feel certain every girl has in her closet, but no list would be complete without mentioning them! I especially love animal print ones!
three. LEGGINGS
These leggings from Old Navy are my go-to fall/winter staple. I have several pair I wear them so much. I'm on the hunt for some faux leather ones this year!
four. LIGHTWEIGHT SCARF
Fall can be weird with the cold mornings and hot days. A lightweight scarf is perfect for balancing the temperature and staying comfortable in a chilly office.
five. EASY-TO-LAYER TOPS
I love Free People tops more than anything for transitioning to fall! They layer perfectly with tanks underneath or with a vest or jacket!
six. BASIC JACKET
I didn't realize how much I needed this basic army green jacket until I had it. It's the perfect lightweight option for fall and pairs well with so many colors. I also love my camo one!
seven. LONG CARDIGAN
There is nothing a long cardigan can't do - promise! Printed or solid, these fall staples can be paired with so many things to create a pulled-together look for work or just running errands.
eight. ANIMAL PRINT BAG
I don't know how many years I've had this bag but every year I pull it back out around this time and carry it nonstop until spring. In my wardrobe, leopard is a neutral and is often the very piece that completes any outfit!
nine. OVERSIZED SWEATSHIRT
This camo sweatshirt from Aerie keeps selling out, but I can tell you that any color would be perfect! It's on sale right now and I'm definitely going to add a couple more to my collection. It's perfect with leggings!
