Let's Go There: NYC for the Governors Ball Music Festival

I'm back today with the next installment of my summer travel series. I met Alicia a couple years ago at a Southern Blog Society VA/DC meet-up, and have followed her blog and social media ever since. There's no doubt that she's gorgeous and super stylish, and her daily musings on twitter and instagram are so fun to follow. Alicia is heading up to NYC for a music festival this week (see her Coachella recap here!), and I was thrilled for her to share some festival packing tips and outfit inspiration with you all today! I love to mix it up with these travel posts to keep it interesting and useful!

I’m going to the Governors Ball Music Festival! Some of the bands/artists I’m super excited to see are Lana Del Ray, Florence and the Machine and Little Dragon. I also gave myself a couple of days to roam around the city before the festival begins. It’s super crucial to give yourself some downtime; music festivals are incredibly draining!

I went to Coachella earlier this year, and that was my very first music festival ever. I learned a lot from that experience and I feel like now I have packing for Gov Ball down to a science!

What I learned from Coachella is to pick outfits that are comfortable, breathe well and aren’t fussy. If you’re not VIP, then you’re likely going to spend a good chunk of your trip sitting in fields and sweating up a storm. Now is not the time to break out your delicate shorts or dresses! Denim shorts are my go-to for festivals; you can channel any vibe you want with them, they’re super easy to clean, and they’re durable.

Some items I found out were absolutely essential for festivals are a travel phone charger, bluetooth speakers for my hotel room just in case I discover an awesome new band, and a spraying mist to cool yourself down at the festival.

I live in the Washington, D.C. area and it’s only a 4 hour bus ride up to NYC. Since New York is super accessible, I make a trip about once every three months. Whatever you do, don’t toss your Metrocard! MTA charges a fee for every new Metrocard, so make sure to hang on to yours for future trips.

I’m super excited to wear this little yellow off the shoulder top from Tobi! The best part about this top? If I get separated from my friends this weekend, it’s so bright that they’ll definitely be able to see me!

I’m also super excited to rock these Tieks roll up flats while roaming around New York before the festival begins! I have several blog meetings lined up, and these Tieks will help me get around the city as comfortably as possible.
