You are making me especially happy today. Thank you for being you and letting me be me. I love you!

If I were a time of day, I'd be afternoon.

If I were a planet, I'd be Saturn.

If I were a sea animal, I'd be a seahorse.

If I were a direction, I'd be south.

If I were a piece of furniture, I'd be a comfy couch.

If I were a liquid, I'd be sweet tea.

If I were a gemstone, I'd be an emerald.

If I were a tree, I'd be a palm tree.

If I were a tool, I'd be pliers.

If I were a flower, I'd be a peony.

If I were a kind of weather, I'd be seventy-five degrees, sunny, with a slight breeze.

If I were a musical instrument, I'd be a violin.

If I were a color, I'd be white.

If I were an emotion, I'd be peaceful.

If I were a fruit, I'd be a peach.

If I were a sound, I'd be horses hooves on cobble stone.

If I were an element, I'd be air.

If I were a car, I'd be a 1960 Mercedes.

If I were a food, I'd be Italian.

If I were a place, I'd be home.

If I were a material, I'd be silk.

If I were a taste, I'd be sweet.

If I were a scent, I'd be fresh.

If I were an object, I'd be a lamp.

If I were a body part, I'd be the lips.

If I were a facial expression, I'd be a wink.

If I were a song, I'd be Ordinary People by John Legend.

If I were a pair of shoes, I'd be Louboutins.

I'm interested to know, what would you be?
Day 8:
today's challenge:
Do something fun today.
Dance in the living room.
Have a picnic in the park.
Go shopping.

What's in a Name (Brown Eyed Belle edition)

What is in a name? What does it say about us? When you look at me do you think 'she looks like a Julie?' Do you like your name or not?

Better yet, what does our blog name say about us? Since this is where most of us have met one another and formed these wonderful relationships, I think it's interesting to know the reason behind the names.

Some people's names seem obvious. They make sense. But some make you wonder. However, once explained it makes total sense.

So, how did I come up with my name you ask? Well, it wasn't easy. I thought and I thought until my head hurt a little. Then it just hit me. Of course! That's perfect. But why? Why is it perfect? Let's break it down...

Brown Eyed
Yes, clearly this is because I have brown eyes. However, I often find that us brown eyed ladies get pushed aside, because of our commonality. And I will be the first to admit that I have been jealous of some blue and green eyes in my time. But I have come to love my eyes and don't consider them so average anymore. They are me. I wouldn't be 'Julie' without them. Not to mention I have my own song, "You, my brown eyed girl, do you remember when, we used to sing....."
(It's true!)

I love being from the South. I love the culture and the accents and traditions that go along with where I come from. I know many of my fellow southern ladies feel the same way. Even if I moved out of the South I would still identify as southern. I think that wherever you call home, you probably consider it part of you. Well, the same for me. So, this part of me had to be a part of my blog.

(But I promise you won't see me in one of those)

What makes us choose these names? For me it was two things that I consider to be part of me, part of who I am, it felt right.

Where did your inspiration come from for your bloggy?

TGIF, Nail Polish and Day 6 of the Challenge

Good morning! Who's glad it's Friday?? Raise your hand! Ok, hands down. Well, I'm glad it's Friday but unfortunately I have to do some traveling this weekend for class. But it's only until tomorrow and it may be a nice break to  get away. Maybe. We'll see :)  Any fun plans on your agenda this weekend??

Ok, onto the 'colorful' part of this post!

I have been seeing some interesting nail colors floating around the internet lately. Anyone else know what I'm talking about??

OPI 'Jade is the New Black' (Hong Kong Collection)

OPI 'Suzi Says Feng Shui' (Hong Kong Collection)

Essie 'Midnight Cami'

Essie 'Mint Candy Apple'

Essie 'Bright Tights'

OPI 'Mad as a Hatter' (Alice in Wonderland Collection)

How do you all feel about these crazy new colors? I think I could jump on this colorful train (except for the orange)! Let me know what you think!

And last but not least, today is Day 6 of the challenge....

Day 6:
Sometimes we get so busy that we forget to stop and rest in God's presence.
And instead at the end of the day, as we're drifting off to sleep, we give him what's left.
If even that.
But how much better would things be, if we began AND ended our day with intentional time with Him?
Today's your chance.
If you're participating, don't forget to link up over at Summer's!

Happy Friday, everyone!

Lots of Love All Around!

Wow! I just want to thank you all so much for the lovely comments that you have been leaving since the '21 Day Challenge' started! I couldn't ask for a more wonderful bunch of ladies to share this with, you all uplift and inspire me everyday. Thank you! I hope I manage to brighten your day as much as you do mine!

Ok, so that little intro was only part of the love that I have today :) Remember I am all positivity lately! I have received a few awards this week (you all are all about love too)! Now, it's time for me to pass them along to my lovelies!

My lovely Kori at Blonde Episodes created this new Beautiful Blog Award. She is always coming up with the most creative awards (and they always have the glamorous Ms. Monroe as the mascot).

I want all of you to grab this! Please, I'm serious! I think you all have beautiful blogs and they are all unique and showcase your personality. So, go on and take it, it's yours!

Amber from Young, Fabulous and Newlywed passed along 'The Best Part of Waking Up...' award.  This one is really special, because it means a lot to know that my blog is something that people really look forward to in the mornings! I get a little tear actually!

Thank you so much, Amber!

And last but not least one of my new favorites, Valerie at Next to Heaven, gave me the 'You're Going Places, Baby' award. How cute is this? I love it!
Rules: Post where you’d like to be in 10 years and then give it to 10 bloggers.
Hmmmm....where do I want to be in 10 years? Well, that would make me 33. I would love to still be working at the same school. I clearly love it there! Hopefully by then I will be married, maybe with a little muffin running around??

These are 10 ladies that I have just recently found and I definitely think they're going places!

Ok, so now that the awards have been handed out, I was also tagged (by this girl and this girl) to play a little photo game! I love to share my pictures! The rules are to go to your first picture folder, pick the 10th photo, and tell the story behind it.

I love this picture!! I can't believe it was taken almost a year ago. Those are my two best friends, Lauren and Kelsey. This was taken at our baccalaureate ceremony the day before we graduated from college. You see that big smile on Kelsey's face? Well, not only was she about to graduate from college but she had gotten engaged the night before! I know, it was quite a weekend!

Now, I want these ladies to play along!

I will leave you with this little thought....

(Yep, I sure do!)

Love you all!

Inspiration and Time

Hello! How are you my dears? Would you believe it if I told you it's snowing here? Yup, old man winter has sneaked back up on me again. Darn him!

You all know I'm longing for spring (summer preferably) so today I'm going to share some inspiration photos. Just some pics that are lifting me up today :)

Update from yesterday's challenge:
I really had to stop and think yesterday. I didn't realize how often negativity fills my mind. It was even harder because I was trying to be so positive about everyone. That's difficult, let me tell ya. Feeling good about myself is usually always difficult in January and February. I'm pasty white, I feel like my clothes are boring, not to mention I feel like nothing looks as good as it could if I had a little color to my skin. Overall, yesterday was a test. I'm trying the 'no negativity' again today. I just feel like I need a repeat.

Today is day 5.....

Day 5:
Imagine all the things we could get done if we didn't have social media....
for example:  Facebook & Twitter.
Let's try it out and see just what happens when we take a break for 24 hours.
Take notes on what you accomplish in the time not wasted.

(I'm not wasting a minute today)

How are you spending your day?

No Negativity: Day 4

If you aren't joining us in the '21 Days to a Better Me' you really should! You wouldn't believe how much better I feel everyday! Summer has now posted a Mr. Linky so we can see who is participating and have a little community of support during the challenge. Such a sweet one, that Summer!

 (Photo here)

Update from yesterday:
I kept a little notebook with me all day and jotted down blessings as they came to mind. Some of them included:
I was able to get up this morning.
I made it to work safely.
Having wonderful coworkers.
My dad giving me great advice.
Hearing children's laughs everyday.

Today is day four....

Day 4:
Often times we can get caught up in negative self talk.
Or in being negative period.
We tend to speak to ourselves more horribly than we would ever imagine speaking to someone we love.
So today, that stops.
With every negative thought that comes into your mind,
first immediately STOP it...
And then, replace that thought with what is TRUE and positive.
Even better, get some index cards and write out the negative thought on one side,
and the truth on the other.
Along with the truth, you could find a bible verse or quote that further encourages you in that area.
Notice what a difference you feel about yourself and about life at the end of the day.
(I'm looking for the silver linings today)
So, today it's all about positivity. I'm going to take the positivity one step further and strive to be positive about everyone around me too. Negativity is contagious and toxic, so I'm hoping that my positivity will be just as contagious today.

If you're still contemplating taking part in this challenge, today should be the day! What better day to start than the day that's devoted to feeling good about yourself?

By the way, you look fabulous today!

Blessings: Day 3 of the '21 Day Challenge'

I am so happy that so many of you commented that you wanted to join in on this challenge. Isn't it fantastic? And remember you have this lady to thank for her wonderful idea! So, today is day three.....

Day 3:
Today's focus is on the blessings in your life.
My mentor mom keeps a blessings journal,
and each day she keeps track and writes down all the blessings of her day.
I think it's such an incredible idea, one that can only bring about joy.
So grab a notebook and keep track of each and every blessing that comes your way.
When you're looking for them, you'll be sure to find them.
Here's where you can go everyday to see the challenges. Thank you, Summer!

Don't forget to count your blessings today...

Top Two Tuesday is Here Again!

Hello! Happy Tuesday! One day down, only four to go until the weekend :) Do you all live for the weekend like I do? I mean, I love my job but Friday evening when my arms are wrapped around the couple of days ahead of me, I just get so excited!

Changes (for the better)

(photo google)

Well, today is the day. Actually, Ash Wednesday was the day, but I'm just now filling you all in. I am making some changes in my life.

Have you ever had an experience where it seemed like God was trying to tell you something? Like he was trying to speak directly to you? Well, he's been calling me for a while. And after leaving a few voice mails, I'm returning his calls.

There has been a series of events that have spoken to me over the past few days. First, my church started doing a New Testament reading challenge to get us in the habit of reading the Bible everyday (that was his first call, he left a message). Then there was Lent and the need to give up or take on something to better myself and strengthen my faith (call number two, he left another message). Then sweet Summer posted this yesterday, her '21 Days to a Better You.' (that was when God left his last message and I returned the call).

(photo here)

I have struggled with ways to strengthen my faith for a while. I certainly feel close to God, but I've felt that there was something else I could do and then he placed all these signs in front of me that it was time for a change. I mean, who doesn't want to feel better about themselves and stronger in their faith?

(photo LaceyBlog)

So, I've decided to join Summer and take on this challenge and I'm hoping by the end I will feel like a new and refreshed person. Here's a little update on yesterday and today's challenges.

Day 1:
Think of something you are willing to give up for 21 days,
and commit to it once and for all.
Write it down.
Tell someone so they can help to hold you accountable.
and remember,
it's just for 21 days.
you can do anything for 21 days.

What did I give up? Cursing. I don't do it a lot, but I do it enough to give it up for 21 days.

Day 2:
Let today be a day that you are focused on going out of your way to show love and kindness to the people around you.
Whether that means sending a card,
writing a thoughtful email or note,
doing a chore for someone,
or spending extra intentional time with a friend, child or family member....
Whatever it may be, just find as many ways as you can throughout the day and do them.
And do them with a heart full of love.

I was full of love today! And I feel gooood.

I am so excited about this challenge and the changes that I'm making. I am too blessed to not put my priorities in order and give thanks to the One who gives me everything I need.
(photo here)

"Walk with me and work with me-watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."
Matthew 11:29-30

I would love it if you would join me! Let's feel better together!

Getting to Know Each Other!

Hello, my loves! How are you? How has your weekend been so far? I hope it's been sunny and full of fun! It has been beautiful here in VA this weekend! Today it was almost sixty degrees! I'm telling you, spring is just around the corner :)

Last night, as I mentioned in my last post, I had a girls' night with one of my favorite teachers from work and her daughter. We went to dinner at a local restaurant and then we went to see Rocky Horror Picture Show. Let me just say that was quite the experience!! We had a blast!

So, today I'm going to join the fun (for the first time) and do a round of 'get to you' with Keely who writes Mann Land 5. It's a Sunday affair where she posts random questions on her blog and then we all join in and get to know each other. I love getting to know people and making new friends so here's to making this a Sunday routine!

1. How often do you wash/change your sheets?
Once a week. No ifs, ands, or buts.

2. When is your birthday?
January 22. It's my favorite holiday!

3. Have you ever met a bloggy friend in real life?
No, but that HAS to change in 2010! I become closer to some of you all everyday and can't wait until we meet!
4. Brad Pitt or George Clooney
Oh, George, for sure. Remember this post?

5. If you could change one thing about your body what would it be?
Cellulite. There's not a lot but there's enough to get on my nerves. Remember when Kim Kardashian did the cellulite vacuum thing? That's what I want :)

6. How often do you wash your hair?
A couple times a week. I know, I'm one of the lucky ones!

7. Do you have pets?
Yes, Millie-bug, my precious Yorkie

8. How many social networks do you belong to...if you had to give up one, what would it be?
Facebook, Blogger and Southern Mamas. I can't pick! I'm attached to them all! It definitely wouldn't be my blog though. It's my baby:)

Hop on over to Keely's and play along! You know you want to!!
