Julie on Blogging

Blogging. The wikipedia definition (yea, I'm very scholarly like that) reads as follows:

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~
A blog (a contraction of the term "web log") is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

These little corners of the www that we have nuzzled into and made our own, (ya know, moved in our furniture, propped our feet up with a yummy cocktail) leave me speechless sometimes. Where else could ladies come together like this? Where else could you meet and form friendships with such diverse people? I could have never imagined when I started my blog that I would become friends (real, honest, would-do-anything-in-the-world-for-you friends) with people from every corner of the US. I know the people at the post office think I'm in the mob or something mailing things all over the country like I do. George (that's my mail guy) always has that 'so where are we sending this today, Ms. Looney?' look on his face. Ok, maybe he doesn't have that exact look, but it's pretty close.

 (If my blog was a room, it would look like this)

These thoughts that I'm putting into this post are things that I know all of us have pondered, thought about, blogged about, but today is the day for me to talk about it here. I feel sure my thoughts aren't unusual, but they're my thoughts and for those of you reading this, thank you.

One thing I think about a lot in regards to blogging is how the relationships form. I have a theory. Wanna hear about it? Ok, ok, so not really 'hear' about it, but read about it? Here it goes.....

1. interest: You find a new blog. You love the header, the colors, you notice that the most recent post is about something that you love. You bookmark the page.

2. infatuation: You catch yourself coming back over and over, nearly everyday, to see if the author has posted something new. You're hooked. You add the blog to your reader or click 'follow.'

3. acquaintances: You begin to make casual comments on the blog. The author returns the favor and visits your place. Soon, you find yourself commenting on nearly every post and sending emails every now and then.

4. comfort: You get comfortable with the person. You find yourself in their posts, you relate to their words, you love their pictures, and wonder if they could be your long-lost sister.

5. friend: You email. A lot. You become facebook friends. You talk nearly everyday in some way, shape, or form. She has a place in your heart.

You like my theory? I thought you would.

And can we talk just a second (since we are on the topic here) about the phrase 'in real life?' You know like 'My in-real-life friend, Katie.' So, what does this phrase mean exactly? I don't get it. Let me just say that my blog is my 'real life' and the people I have met through my blog are now part of my 'real life.'

This is my real life.

Oh, I could write a whole post simply about this, but I won't, I will spare you :)

Just know that I consider you part of my real life. No, we've never met. Some of us may never meet (I hope that's not true because I want to meet you all!), but you are part of my 'real life.' Period.

(Photos here)

My point to all of this?

I love blogging.
I love my blog.
I love the friends I've made here.
I love touching people every day.
I love to give people a little inspiration.
I love to relate to people.
I love you all for being so kind to me.
So, what's left to say about this?
Thank you.

And, yes, blogging is one of my 'little things.'

Have a beautiful day, everyone!

What a great post! I would love to have that area in the first photo as my blogging area. As for the blog as a room photo you chose! Love it to pieces - um, pink and green, and cozy? Enough said.

What a great post! I've tried explaining this very thing to people and they think I'm crazy, but that makes me love the sweet comforts of the blog world even more.

I'm glad you're my friend!!

You're totally right...It really is crazy how many amazing people you meet just through blogging!

Cheers to blog friends! May they last a lifetime! (I'm holding up my imaginary pink martini, haha)

Shhh don't tell my "in real life" friends ( I too don't get it blogging is more my life than most things), but I love my bloggy friends even more. They don't care what I wear, who designed my shoes, or what car I drive, they care about me. Love that!

that is kind of funny how we refer to our "real-life" friends and otherwise....i hope we do all get to meet someday....so that we aren't just connected through cyberspace, but connected through physical experience! keep doing what you are doing sweet girl!

I love this post. I don't have alot of blog friends - but when I post a new entry it's like talking to a friend and saying things that I otherwise may not say.

I hope you have a blessed day!

Julie, I think everyone needs a blog friend like you! You are SO positive and inspirational. I love your attitude. Now if only we could hang out! I think we'd make great friends :-) I agree with everything you said in this post. I don't know how I didn't begin blogging sooner. I've "met" so many wonderful people, but it stinks they don't live near me!

I hope you have an AMAZING weekend pretty lady :-)

Great blog Julie, thanks for putting into words what so many of us feel! I am such a lurker, and I am in that infatuation stage where I visit you blog EVERY DAY to see if you have posted something new, but haven't really begun to comment regularly yet :) I appreciate your fresh and honest look at life, and the optimism that is so joyfully apparent in all of your posts! Thanks for making my day so often! I look forward to having more blog friends someday too!

This is so sweet! It's truly amazing how such an incredible community is made through blogging . . . I'm still sort of new at it, but on Thursday I mailed a package that I was so excited about to a girl across the country whom I've never met, and I was like, wow! This all happened through blogging. :)
